Ports of Halland and Port of Grenaa unite in collaboration – Kattegat Port Alliance

The Port of Grenaa and the Ports of Halland have long been sister ports, linked through the Stena Line ferry route between Grenaa, previously Varberg, and now Halmstad. The ports are now taking the partnership to the next level by formalizing their collaboration through the ‘Kattegat Port Alliance’ – a strategic partnership aimed at fostering growth and developing sustainable logistics solutions for customers in the key segments of Cargo Mobility, Energy, and Offshore Wind.

The foundation of this collaboration lies in the ports’ shared vision to leverage opportunities by exchanging experiences and developing joint projects in sustainability, innovation, and logistics solutions. By formalizing their partnership, both ports can benefit from each other’s strengths and create added value for their customers.

- We see this partnership as an essential strategic element in our continued growth and development. For both our customers and us, we see great potential and strong synergies in strengthening and expanding our collaboration across Kattegat. The Ports of Halland and the Port of Grenaa have enjoyed a positive and close working relationship for many years, and this partnership agreement is a natural yet innovative step forward in our cooperation, says Henrik Carstensen, CEO of the Port of Grenaa.

- This collaboration enables us to offer our customers even more efficient and sustainable solutions by combining our resources and expertise. Together with the Port of Grenaa, we are creating new opportunities to optimize cargo flows, improve storage, and streamline the handling of complex projects, says Carl-Henrik Hägg, CEO of the Ports of Halland.

Investing in Key Segments

The collaboration will primarily focus on the key segments of Cargo Mobility, Energy, and Offshore Wind.

- We have chosen to prioritize these segments initially because we see great potential to jointly drive growth and strengthen the services offered to our customers. The Port of Grenaa has a strong position in these segments and provides valuable expertise and resources that complement the strengths of Ports of Halland’s," says Carl-Henrik Hägg.

In the offshore wind sector, the partnership brings benefits throughout the entire installation process. Transport and handling of wind turbine components will be streamlined by utilizing the combined areas, resources, and expertise of both ports, resulting in greater cost efficiency for projects.

- It is also important to highlight the broader focus on collaboration within well-established segments such as Stacking, Bulk, and Recycling. The partnership also aims to optimize storage and logistics for existing cargo flows passing through both ports, which is expected to provide environmental benefits.
