Hallands Hamnar invests in extensive charging infrastructure in Halmstad
Hallands Hamnar has established an electrified infrastructure for the vehicle fleet at the container terminal in Halmstad and invested in a new electric truck. This initiative marks an important milestone in the company’s sustainability strategy, aiming to reduce its climate footprint by gradually electrifying the entire vehicle fleet.
The previous lack of electrified infrastructure has long been a barrier to the company’s ambitions. Thanks to a close collaboration with Bravida and Halmstads Energi och Miljö, Hallands Hamnar has now installed a high-voltage transformer station and created charging capacity that ensures the entire equipment fleet at the container terminal can transition to electric power. Currently, the vehicle fleet is powered by fossil-free HVO fuel.
-With the new charging infrastructure, we are taking a major step toward our vision of electrifying the entire vehicle fleet at the terminal. This investment is crucial for reducing our climate footprint and creating a more sustainable port environment in Halmstad, says Jimmy Eklöf, Technical Manager at Hallands Hamnar.
Hallands Hamnar has a clear ambition to electrify the majority of the machines and vehicles at the container terminal in Halmstad over time. The new infrastructure enables this and provides a flexible platform for future investments in electrified machinery.
The electric truck – A choice by the employees
The new electric truck is a Reachstacker used for handling containers. It is manufactured by Kalmar and is the second of its kind in Sweden. This powerful machine performs the same heavy-duty tasks as a conventional diesel truck but without emissions and with reduced noise.
-Our employees participated in the selection process for the electric truck, and their insights have been invaluable. Their involvement ensures that we have a machine that meets our operational needs and strengthens our work environment, adds Jimmy Eklöf.
