Meet our Health and Safety Manager Katarina

Katarina, can you tell us what your job as Health and Safety Manager at Port of Halland entails?

You could say that I work with everything that has to do with the company's work environment. From conducting safety inspections and managing rehabilitation to organising training and acting as a sounding board for management, supervisors and employees. I drive ideas and initiatives to prevent and develop our health and safety work. Right now, I'm trying to launch a project for joint training. After all, the idea is that we should feel great and last a lifetime - both on and off the job.

How did you end up at Hallands Hamnar?

Well, after thirty years in the police, I simply needed a new challenge and a change. I longed to work with people again, but in a different way. The interest in work environment issues has always been part of my professional life and that feeling made me study further and finally land in this role at Hallands Hamnar.

How do you see the corporate culture at Hallands Hamnar?

There is a strong sense of community here. We strive to be inclusive and support each other's well-being and development. Overall, the culture is about you and me having a responsibility to care for each other, show compassion and treat each other with respect. You should know what is expected of you, be able to be yourself and feel safe.

What does security mean in port work?

Safety is part of everything we do. I can repeat laws and health and safety regulations here, but in general it is about ensuring that everyone works in safe conditions. For my job, it's about strengthening a safety culture where employees know what is expected of them, that everyone - every day - strives and dares to do the right thing. That we work preventively and learn through experience.

How important is health in port work?

Health is extremely important, just like in any workplace. We have generous benefits for wellness, massages and other activities, but we also need to feel good, physically and mentally. Here, my work is about strengthening individuals in both body and mind, creating a workplace where everyone has fun and feels appreciated. Making individuals realise that they have a responsibility for their own health. Health and well-being are absolutely crucial for a good working life. We should last a lifetime. It is our conviction that investing in health and safety at work will always improve the company's culture, attractiveness and results.

The idea is that we should feel great and last a lifetime - both on and off the job.
